Does it matter how I dress on stage?

January 15, 2020

Musicians can get so caught up in the music they forget that people out for an evening came out for good music and to be entertained while spending time with their friends. This is because when they go out to listen to a band, they are still musicians and as musicians, they really listen to the music itself. Because to a musician, that is what is important, the music.

The problem is that people who come out to listen to music at a bar, restaurant, festival or concert have come out to be entertained and will also be visiting with friends and/or dancing. Of course, there is always the hard-core music fans who will really concentrate on the music itself. But most of us just want to have fun.

Keeping this in mind, you need to consider the band’s visual appearance because people want to see a show and not a group of people just standing around playing music lost in their own world of the music. There is nothing memorable about a miss matching group of people. And you want to be remembered.

Another point to keep in mind is that if you want to play another gig at the places you perform then you need to make memorable. You need to think about what visually you did to make yourself stand out. Let’s say the whole band is dress in black and during their best set they wear red glasses. The regular sitting at the bar might ask the employees when the band who wore the red glasses will be coming back. There are so many little things a person can do to present themselves more professional and stand out.
