Creating Chant #68
Jeremy showed up at the studio one day, saying he thought of a great melody on the way here. We recorded just him and his guitar. I said it sounded like a chant. Within a half-hour I came up with the lyrics, and in a three-hour session, we had the whole song mapped out. Tommy Kelly is the singer, Jeremy Bates playing guitars, Tommy Whiteman on drums, and Matt Blocher playing keyboards Chant #68 came into being.

Chant #68 Lyrics

Hey, hey, hey
We’re in the world
Hey, hey, hey
of many dances.

Hey, hey, hey
Living the life
Hey, hey, hey
of many trances.
Here we go . . .

Hey, hey, hey
Climbing a tree
Hey, hey, hey
Of many branches.

Hey, hey, hey
It’s all about
Hey, hey, hey
Our frail chances.
Here we go . . .

Hey, hey, hey
We’re in the world
Hey, hey, hey
of many dances.

Hey, hey, hey
Living the life
Hey, hey, hey
of many trances.

Hey, hey, hey
Something about the future:

Hey, hey, hey
It always reaches into the past.

Here we go:

Hey, hey, hey
Something about the future:

Hey, hey, hey
It always reaches into the past.
Here we go now

How long does my post say on Curators Playlist?
Forever – We never take post down.

How long is my post featured?
30 days.

How soon will you listen to my Music?
24 to 48 hours.

Can I share my post?
Yes of course

Why does it cost to post on Curators Playlist?
Because this small charge helps me weed our serious people who want to be featured and promoted. I’m the office manager at Wardco Studios and my time to work on Curators Playlist is limited. Plus Curators Playlist receives 100’s of song submissions each week and while we do our best to listen to every song, add it to the playlist, post it on our blog, and then share both the song and blog post it on Twitter on a timely basis, there is a limit as to how many songs we can process in a day’s time. This can result in a delay in processing your song of several days, or even a week, depending on how many submissions we get on a daily basis.

Will my music be placed on a Spotify or other Playlist by submitting to Curators Playlist Blog?
There is never a charge to be placed on a Spotify or other playlists. However, All Indie Music we hear on this website, a playlist, or social media could end up on a playlist or blog.

Please feel free to ask questions by commenting on this post or contacting us.

    Position: Lead Guitarist
    : Singer
    : Song Writer

Don Whitaker is an Indiana singer/songwriter currently living in Putnam County Indiana. He recently launched his newest band, Street Legal, which he fronts, the band currently playing at different venues in West Central Indiana.

His first introduction to performing occurred at age six, when he found himself standing atop bars at local VFWs to sing covers – music coming from the bar’s jukebox – his efforts adding to Don’s stash of quarters for his pinball fascination. Don has been playing professionally since the age of 15, appearing in the horn section of the touring band, Morning Star, while also taking his turn at the mic as a young singer.
Over the years Don became a sought after singer of rock, country & folk, while also becoming proficient in the guitar, bass, drums, piano, trumpet, trombone and fiddle. Some of the many bands he played with over the past several decades include Backwoods Boys, Chasing Rainbows, Backtracked and Rusted Buckle. Don says, “Sometimes it seems nothing matters but music. I’ve been doing this for years, and I know I’ll never stop.”

    The Shrubs

    Position: Band
: Carl Miller, Guitars, Lead Vocals
    : Spike, Drummer, Vocals
    : RJ, Bass, Vocals

The Shrubs started out when Spike and RJ, college classmates in Upstate New York, started jamming in the basement of Spike’s mother’s house around 1985. Their mutual influences were the Police, Rush and XTC among others. Later an acquaintance introduced Carl to the guys. After jamming for a while, the trio decided they needed a name. They came up with The Shrubs after dismissing other names (Dumpster Juice & Piggy Pucker among them). They found a new practice home in the basement of a friend’s house and soon were playing at parties there, other house parties, bars and even a local Rod and Gun Club. They started writing and recording their own music, producing 3 albums of original music (Another Day Goes By…, One Happy Zucchini and Who’s Cow’s in the Hoosegow). The band went on hiatus for a while when RJ moved to San Diego. Spike and Carl started re-recording and mixing new parts of the old songs. The result was a re-release of Another Day Goes By… Now the collaboration extends across the nation to update current songs and work on new songs.

It’s not easy being a working band on the road. Indeed the singer sings “it’s hard to be the perfect band.” There are many distractions, but the worse of all is when they’re playing, and a beautiful woman on the dance floor breaks into a frenetic dance.
